لا يزال دور الحكومة قائم لزيادة القدرات التنافسية للدول ، إلا انه في ظل التحرير الاقتصادي يأخذ هذا الدور أشكال غير تقليدية ، فبدلا من التدخل المباشر متمثل في إجراءات الحماية والدعم للأنشطة الإنتاجية ، تحول هذا الدور إلى مساندة غير مباشرة متمثلة في تهيئة بيئة الأعمال التي تحفز إقامة الأعمال في الأسواق المحلية و تبني الدولة لأفضل الممارسات في مجال السياسات الاقتصادية المختلفة . ويُحّلل البحث الحالي دور الحكومة الداعم لتنافسية الاقتصاد المصري . وقد خلص البحث إلى أن الاقتصاد المصري
لا يزال بحاجة إلى بذل جهود كبيرة في مجال إصلاح السياسات النقدية والمالية ، وسياسات الاستثمار والتنمية البشرية وغيرها ، وأنه يجب العمل دائما على مقارنة نتائج هذه السياسات بالمنافسين الآخرين.

The Government has still a role to play in the context of increasing competitive capabilities. However, in regard to economic liberalization, it took several unconventional roles. Instead of the direct intervention in the form of protection measures and subsidies given to productive activities, this role has been shifted towards indirect support measures, that include preparing the business environment in the local market and the adoption of the best practices in the field of economic policies.
This study investigates the role of the Government in supporting the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy. It concluded that the Egyptian economy still needs major efforts in the areas of monetary and fiscal policies, investment and human development. These efforts have to systematically be compared with those of other competitors.
