| Description: | The paper investigates the feasibility of achieving the Millennium Development Goal of reducing poverty by half by the year 2015 in the context of Sudan. An analytical framework for the changes in poverty over time is presented. The framework allows an indirect method for the calculation of the relevant variables to be used for countries that do not have the required information. The indirect method is used for Sudan. Starting from 2001 as a base year it is shown that Sudan needs to attain, and sustain, a GDP growth rate of about 7 percent per annum to achieve the MDG on poverty.
